A hate crime investigation has been launched after a group of youths ripped a hijab from a woman and struck her on the head with an object.
The incident occurred at around 12.30am on Renfield Street in Glasgow’s city centre.
A video on social media, taken by a passing taxi driver, shows the group running up behind the woman.
On individual grabs at the hijab, while another raises his arm and strikes her on the head. The group then run off along the road.
Police Scotland say there were no injuries, but STV News understands that the woman was taken to hospital by the driver, where she received stitches.
When the officers arrived at the scene, the group had made off from the area.
Detectives are treating the attack as a hate crime.
A spokesperson added: “Around 12.30am on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, we received reports of a disturbance involving a group of youths near the Renfield Street area of Glasgow city centre.
“Officers attended however the youths had made off from the area. No one required any medical treatment.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
