'Agony': Savannah Guthrie's first interview since mother's disappearance

The Today co-host appealed again for anyone who might have information to come forward, saying, "someone needs to do the right thing"

US television presenter Savannah Guthrie has given her first interview since her 84-year-old mother was seemingly abducted from her Arizona home in February.

The co-host of NBC’s Today show, who is taking a step back from work, tearfully appealed for anyone who might have information to come forward, saying “someone needs to do the right thing”.

Speaking with her longtime friend and colleague Hoda Kotb, Guthrie said: “We are in agony, we are in agony. It is unbearable.”

She revealed she wakes up “every night” and thinks about the “terror” her mother went through.

NBC released a brief excerpt from the interview on Wednesday morning, ahead of airing an extended version in two parts on Thursday and Friday.

Authorities have been looking for Nancy Guthrie since she went missing on February 1.

Despite offering a $1 million reward for information, there has been little movement in the investigation.

Footage revealing a masked figure outside the home of Nancy Guthrie was released, and alleged ransom notes were reported, but no police suspect has been identified.

Guthrie’s family last weekend appealed to neighbours in Arizona to search back through their memories for anything they might have seen that could help the investigation.

“No detail is too small,” they said.

It is thought that Savannah Guthrie is preparing to return to the Today show, although the network has not announced a date.

According to ITV New’s US partner CNN, “a person close to the show said they anticipate Guthrie coming back to Studio 1A sometime in April”.
