Barry Manilow says he is undergoing surgery after 'early' lung cancer diagnosis

The 82-year-old musician has announced he will be postponing a string of upcoming concerts after his doctor found a cancerous spot on his lung.

Singer Barry Manilow has revealed he has a cancerous spot on his lung and will undergo surgery.

The 82-year-old musician shared the news on Monday, revealing that he was postponing a string of upcoming concerts due to his diagnosis.

He said that he was diagnosed with lung cancer after his doctor recommended he undergo an MRI scan following an 11-week bout of bronchitis.

In a post shared to his Instagram account, he said: “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.

“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early. That’s the good news.

He continued: “The bad news is that now that the Christmas Gift Of Love concerts are over I’m going into surgery to have the spot removed.

“The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis.

“So that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”

Manilow, who is best known for hits including Copacabana, Mandy and Looks Like We Made It, said he will need to spend a month recovering.

The post noted that ticket holders for the January concerts will be able to use their existing tickets for the rescheduld dates.

Manilow said he is “counting down the days” until his concerts on Valentine Day weekend in February and throughout 2026 at the Westgate Las Vegas.

He ended the post advising his 114,000 followers to look after their health, stating: “Remember, if you have even the slightest symptom…get tested!”
