California resident mistakes statute for 'dead' elephant and calls police

Social media users swiftly reacted, joking about how absurd the situation was, saying the elephant 'collapsed after hearing about Trump's tariffs'.

A California resident called police to report a ‘dead’ elephant in a garden, but it turned out to be just “a wind-toppled statue”.

Palm Springs Police Department received the “unusual” call for help on Thursday and promptly called animal control to answer the call.

Thankfully, “no tranquillizers were needed or stampede protocols activated,” to quell the threat of the “fallen giant”.

“Just another breezy day in Palm Springs reminding us to secure your statues, especially the life-sized ones,” the police said on Facebook.

Police shared a photo of the fake elephant tipped on its side near a concrete wall on a grassy lawn.

Social media users swiftly reacted, joking about how absurd the situation was.

One user said: “Okay, but like who in tf looked at that statue and said oh god, it’s a dead elephant let me call PSPD. Like really people??”

Another joked that the elephant was an “abandoned pet” and offered to “adopt it” from the lawn.

Someone else said the elephant “collapsed after hearing about Trump’s tariffs”.

A third, mocking the US’ economic turmoil, added: “Obviously, a Republican seeing the Dow Jones.”
