Easter eggs have been pulled from the shelves of major supermarkets such as Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s over fears pieces of metal are inside.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued urgent recall notices on two Tony’s Chocolonely Large Hollow Easter eggs due to the possible presence of pieces of metal.

It comes days after Tony’s was forced to pull its Dark Almond Sea Salt and Everything chocolate bars from the shelves after it was found they may contain small stones.

The affected products are Tony’s Chocolonely Hollow Milk Caramel Sea Salt and Hollow Milk Chocolate eggs with best before dates of June 2025.

The rest of the Tony’s Chocolonely Easter range, including all its small eggs and all other Tony’s Chocolonely products are not affected by this issue.

The notice affects pack sizes of 242g, and customers who have purchased them are urged not to eat them.

Instead, they should return the products to the store from where they were bought for a refund or replacement.

Tony’s products are sold at major supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.

Point of sale notices will also be displayed in all retail stores that are selling the bars.

A Tony’s Chocolonely statement read: “We are recalling certain batches of its Large Hollow Easter Egg 242g product in both Milk Chocolate and Caramel Sea Salt flavours due to the potential presence of metal fragments.

“This recall only affects these specific products with a best before date of June 2025 with certain lot codes.

“You can check your lot code in our ‘lot code checker’ tool on our web page.

“A lot code is a unique identifier assigned to a specific batch or quantity of products manufactured under the same conditions, used for tracking and traceability.

“It is printed on the side of the packaging underneath the best before date, usually starting with the letter L.

“The rest of the Tony’s Chocolonely Easter range, including all its small eggs and all other Tony’s Chocolonely products are not affected by this issue.

“Do you have an egg with the impacted lot number(s)?

“Please don’t eat the chocolate. Instead, we kindly ask you that you return the product to the store where you bought it for a refund, even if you don’t have a receipt.”
