France will lift its ban on UK holidaymakers from Friday morning.

The move was announced by tourism minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne on Thursday morning.

Travellers who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to enter France if they have evidence of a negative coronavirus test taken within 24 hours of departure.

The requirement to isolate on arrival will be scrapped.

The decision to end the ban on non-essential travel is a major boost for travel firms and the thousands of people in the UK who have booked ski holidays in France.

The move comes a week after the Scottish Government announced that fully-vaccinated travellers returning to Scotland from abroad no longer have to take pre-departure Covid tests or self-isolate upon arrival.

The change in rules, which also applies to people under the age of 18, came into effect on Friday last week.

Travellers still need to take a test on or before day two after arriving in the UK, which can be a lateral flow device rather than a PCR test.

Anyone who tests positive on their lateral flow test will need to isolate and take a free confirmatory PCR test.

The measures apply across the UK after agreement between the UK Government and the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
