King Charles III has appointed his eldest child and heir, William, the Prince of Wales.
The new King bestowed the title upon his son who also inherits the titles of Duke of Rothesay and Cornwall.
William’s wife, Catherine, will become the new Princess of Wales.
The new monarch made the announcement in his address to the nation at 6pm on Friday following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King said: “My life will of course change as I take up my new responsibilities.”
The King said his heir will assume the Scottish titles “which have meant so much to me”.
He said: “Today, I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been so greatly privileged to bear during so much of my life and duty.
“With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given.
“I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”
