Harry Potter film props, including the Marauder’s Map, were among the most expensive items sold in a record-breaking £4.4m auction in London.
The auction, hosted by Propstore, sold rare props from some of the biggest film and TV franchises including Star Wars, Gladiator and Thunderbirds.
The auction, which will run until November 17, made over £4.4m on the first day of the annual live auction at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly.
One of the highest-selling lots was the Marauder’s Map from the Harry Potter film series, which was purchased for £239,400.
The map was previously owned by David Holmes, who was a stunt double for Daniel Radcliffe who played the titular character.
Holmes suffered a life-altering injury while working on the series and the auction house confirmed the proceeds from the sale will support his ongoing care.
Other Harry Potter memorabilia which sold at the auction included Potter’s Hero Wooden wand, which was used in the first two films and sold for £94,500.
Other standout lots included a screen-matched Sandtrooper helmet from Star Wars: A New Hope which sold for £327,600.
The second day of the auction will be dedicated to music, with items linked to Michael Jackson, Prince, Queen, John Lennon and Oasis on offer.
Last year’s UK auction saw lots sold from the Anthony Daniels Collection, including a screen-matched light-up C-3PO head from Star Wars: A New Hope which sold for £687,500.
Stephen Lane, founder and CEO of Propstore, said lots on the opening day of the auction achieved “unprecedented prices”.
“This auction has been especially meaningful, with David Holmes joining us in the room to introduce the incredible Marauder’s Map, which has broken a world-record for the most expensive Harry Potter prop sold at auction,” he said.
“With more incredible items set to go under the hammer over the next three days, we invite collectors and fans worldwide to participate in this unforgettable event.”
