A new photograph of Prince George has been released to mark his tenth birthday.

The photograph shows the smiling prince sat on a set of stone steps in Windsor while wearing a casual outfit of teal trousers, brown shoes and a blue checked shirt.

It follows in the tradition of the release of a new portrait on the birthday of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ children’s birthdays.

The image was taken by Millie Pilkington earlier this month in a departure from previous portraits which have been shot by the Princess of Wales, who has a keen interest in photography.

Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge was born in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London at 4.24pm on July 22 2013, weighing 8lb 6oz.

He made his public debut in front of the world’s media on the hospital steps one day later, wrapped in a white merino wool shawl, cradled in his mother’s arms.

He is King Charles’ eldest grandchild and is second in line to the throne behind his father Prince William.
