Parents across the UK have been plunged into panic after not receiving their monthly child benefit payment.
Many parents have taken to social media to express their concern after the payment did not arrive as usual at the end of the month.
A single parent of three told STV News the issue was “extremely worrying” as the money is needed to pay for school meals as well as transport to and from school.
One parent took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to add: “Can you please explain why thousands of people haven’t received their child benefit today? Me being one of them. You’ve left so many people in trouble, and before you say it no, it isn’t the banks fault!”
Another parent wrote: “We’re heavily reliant on the child benefit payment on a Monday – I’ve got nothing now for food for my child.”
It has not been established when parents can expect their payment, but HMRC confirmed they were “urgently” working to resolve the issue.
An HMRC spokesperson said: “We’re sorry that some customers’ Child Benefit payments have not arrived as scheduled and we are working urgently to resolve the issue.”
