Boris Johnson has received the report into coronavirus lockdown-breaking parties at Downing Street and will make a statement in the House of Commons.

Sue Gray has provided an update on her investigations to the Prime Minister, a Cabinet Office spokesman said.

The civil servant and her team, have been investigating the allegations of rule-breaking gatherings in government departments.

MPs are expecting to be able to read Gray’s much-anticipated report before Johnson delivers a statement in the House of Commons.

However, the report is expected to be missing details after the Met Police asked Gray to make minimal reference to events they are investigating.

It is understood the document could be heavily redacted due to the request which resulted in opposition politicians claiming the Met had delayed the publication.

The force said it had not delayed the report after its request and the launch of its own investigation into possible breaches of Covid rules.

On Friday, the Met stressed the timing of its release was a matter for the Cabinet Office.

Commander Catherine Roper, who leads the Met’s Central Specialist Crime Command, said her officers would examine material provided to them by the Cabinet Office to determine if individuals broke Covid-19 regulations.

She referenced fixed penalty notices as the normal result for the sort of offences being investigated being found proven, saying the police investigation would be “proportionate to the nature of these offences”.

Gray, a senior civil servant, has been leading an inquiry looking at several gatherings in various locations in Whitehall while Covid-19 restrictions were in place with her report expected to establish what happened factually and what rules were in place at the time.

Downing Street said it will publish the Gray report in the full form it has received from the inquiry team, but did not commit to publish a fuller version in the future.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “We can confirm that Sue Gray has provided an update to the Prime Minister.

“The findings will be published on gov.uk and made available in the House of Commons library this afternoon and the Prime Minister will then provide a statement to the House after people have had the opportunity to read and consider the findings.”

He expected the Prime Minister’s statement to be made around 3.30pm.
