Prince George turns 13 in new birthday portrait as he prepares to start Eton

The eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales will start boarding at Eton College in September.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a new picture of their eldest son George to celebrate his 13th birthday.

In the image, published on Instagram and X, Prince George can be seen wearing a dark-coloured suit and an open-necked white shirt after returning from last month’s Trooping the Colour.

“Happy 13th Birthday, George!” the image was captioned.

The portrait was taken by Matt Porteous, who is William and Kate’s go-to photographer for family celebrations, and was also reshared by the King and Queen Camilla.

Prince George Alexander Louis was born in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London, at 4.24pm on July 22 2013, weighing 8lb 6oz.

This year’s birthday is a significant one for him, as he will start at Eton College in September, following in the footsteps of his father Prince William and uncle, Prince Harry.

Pupils start the historic private school, where fees are around £65,000 a year, when they turn 13.

George will also become a boarder while studying there, as the school has 25 boarding houses, each of which has approximately 55 pupils.

He previously attended Lambrook School, a private co-ed prep school in Berkshire, where he occasionally boarded to prepare for Eton.

Twenty prime ministers have attended Eton, including most recently David Cameron and Boris Johnson.
