Several dead and multiple injured after Dutch tour bus overturns in Switzerland

Several people have died and multiple have been injured after a Dutch tour bus overturned in eastern Switzerland on Thursday, police confirmed.

The accident occurred between the villages of Susch and Zernez in the Graubünden region, 17 miles east of Davos and close to the Italian and Austrian borders.

Rescue teams are currently responding to the scene and the road is closed, local media reported.

Swiss media reported that 48 people were on the bus. A spokeswoman for a Dutch travel industry association confirmed to a local newspaper that the passengers were Dutch.

Graubünden Cantonal Police told Swiss news organisation Blick the bus collided with railing at approximately 4.45pm local time (5.45pm BST) and overturned onto its side.

Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad (AD) reported passengers had been travelling since Monday and had been on a day trip in Switzerland, before they planned to head towards Austria.

A Swiss photographer told AD roadworks had been in place where the accident happened.

Police have launched a hotline for anyone affected by the incident.
