Victoria Beckham says she and David 'always tried to be the best parents'

The interview with The Wall Street Journal was the first since her son Brooklyn made a series of allegations against his parents.

Victoria Beckham has said she and husband David “always tried to be the best parents that we can be” in her first interview since her son Brooklyn made a series of allegations against his parents.

“I think that we’ve always – we love our children so much,” she said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

“We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children.

“And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”

The interview comes months after Brooklyn accused his family of controlling behaviour, putting “brand Beckham” before all else, and trying to “endlessly ruin” his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz Beckham on several occasions.

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into,” he wrote in a lengthy Instagram post in February.

The only other public interaction between the two was the Beckhams wishing their son a happy birthday last month.

David shared two photographs, the first of himself, Victoria, and a young Brooklyn in a pool, with a caption that said “27 today. Happy Birthday Bust. We love you.”

Victoria said the negative press has not affected her business.

“I think that ultimately people are buying my product because the product is really good. I don’t think they’re buying my eyeliner just because it’s me.”

The media attention may actually have earned her extra support, with her 2001 song Not Such an Innocent Girl hit number one on the iTunes chart after a social media campaign by fans.

The campaign described the fact that Victoria Beckham was the only former Spice Girl not to have a number one for her solo work as a “national tragedy”.
