A newborn alpaca nicknamed ‘Wee Dram’ because his mum is named after a whisky brand is thriving in a field and causing “havoc” with 15 others in the sunshine.
The baby, who was born on March 8, has not been formally named, but his mum is named Kaol Ilay, after a single malt whisky.
He was born weighing 7kg and lives in a field with 15 female alpacas at Velvethall Alpacas in the small town of Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders.
Owner Stuart Ramsay, 56, has 40 alpacas but the males and females are kept separate.
Another baby is due in the coming weeks, as well as more in June.
Dad-of-one Stuart said: “They are loving it because the sun is out.
“It’s not raining, they aren’t covered in mud. They have a strong herd instinct, they like to be with their buddies.”
The baby has not formally been named, but Stuart, who runs the business with partner Jean MacDonald, 66, is hoping to come up with something soon.
Stuart said: “His mum is named Kaol Ilay, after a single malt whisky.
“We were thinking of going down the whisky route. He is in his element, he is causing havoc.”
