Police have cordoned off a street outside a polling station after a man was reportedly stabbed in a “targeted” attack.

A 50-year-old man was left with life threatening injuries after officers responded to reports of a knife attack on Broomlands Street in Paisley at around 9:15 am on Thursday.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, whilst the injured man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Police have said the incident is not related to the nearby polling station or to the election.

Detective inspector Ian Ross from CID said: “This has been a targeted attack, with the two individuals known to each other, and one is now in a very serious condition in hospital.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the attack, has dash cam footage or CCTV to get in touch.

“They can contact us via 101 quoting reference number 0666 of May 6, 21.”
