Two men have been arrested after a man suffered a serious head injury in an assault at a golf course.

The 49-year-old man was attacked whilst walking his dog close to the 16th green of the Cochrane Castle golf course in Johnstone.

He became involved in an altercation with a group of golfers before the assault took place.

Emergency services were called and the man was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.

Police have now confirmed that the two men, aged 55 and 28-years-old, have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

They have been released on an undertaking to appear at court on a later date.

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
