A directorial debut by an Edinburgh filmmaker has topped the BAFTA Scotland Awards nominations after the list was announced on Wednesday.
Aftersun, the debut feature film by breakthrough director Charlotte Wells, received five nominations at the prestigious awards including Feature Film and Director Fiction while Academy Award nominee Paul Mescal and West Lothian star Frankie Corio who starred in the feature film are up for the Actor and Actress Film awards respectively.
The Val McDermid novel adaptation by ITV Karen Pirie, and BBC drama Mayflies each received three nominations, while My Old School starring Alan Cumming and documentary Three Mothers, Two Babies and a Scandal each received two nominations.
First-time nominees Corio and Lucy Halliday are nominated this year for their debut on-screen performances, with Corio being the youngest BAFTA Scotland nominee ever.
The glittering ceremony will take place this year in Glasgow at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, with Edith Bowman returning to host the ceremony.

Also returning to the red carpet is comedian and actor Sanjeev Kohli, who will be chatting to stars as they arrive, with coverage on BAFTA Scotland’s social media commencing at 3.30pm.
The full ceremony will be available to watch live on BAFTA’s YouTube channel from 5.30pm followed by a highlights programme on BBC Scotland later that evening.
The BAFTA Scotland Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen (in partnership with Screen Scotland), the only BAFTA Scotland Award voted on by the public, also returns for 2023.
Nominees for the Audience Award will be announced on Monday October 16 with the public vote opening for two weeks.
A jury composed of key players in Scottish media have selected the six individuals who will compete to be the public’s favourite Scot on Screen this year. The winner will be announced at the BAFTA Scotland Awards ceremony .
The BAFTA Scotland 2023 Outstanding Contribution Award honourees will be announced on Wednesday October 25.
