Scots bakery 'thrilled' as cake shares red carpet with Hollywood stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon

A Scots bakery said they were “thrilled” after their cake was chosen to share the red carpet alongside Hollywood stars Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell in London.

Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon had a supporting act for the UK premiere of their new movie You’re Cordially Invited – in the shape of a ten-tier ‘broken’ wedding cake.

The movie sees the pair go head to head as they plan weddings for their respective loved ones – only to discover they have been double booked at the same venue.

Commissioned for Amazon Prime Video, the two-metre dessert was the work of Edinburgh-based 3D Cakes and transported to London for the event at the London Palladium last week.

The creation of the gravity-defying masterpiece required both engineering and artistry.

Baking the sponges alone took two days, followed by no fewer than 136 hours of intricate decoration.

Reflecting the movie’s plot, the towering cake was designed in two sections, requiring a custom-built internal support to ensure its safe passage from Edinburgh to London.

The operation required the entire 3D Cakes team from Edinburgh and Glasgow, who completed the numerous intricate components in just a few days.

Edible Reese and Will figures displayed on the cake took over 18 hours each to complete and will be showcased in 3D Cakes’ store windows in the coming weeks.

David Duncan of 3D Cakes said: “It’s not every day our work gets to share the spotlight with Hollywood royalty like Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon, but as supporting acts go, we were thrilled to be involved.

“Having it featured at the UK premiere alongside the stars of the film was the icing on the cake!”
