The kitchen at a primary school that was forced to evacuate due to a suspected chemical leak has reopened with “no faults or concerns identified.”
Crieff Primary School pupils and staff were evacuated from the building on September 5 after multiple members of staff working in the kitchen became unwell.
It led to 11 people being taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and the school being closed as a precaution the following day.
The school reopened on September 9 with pupils provided with packed lunches as extensive testing took place over the weekend in the kitchen area.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service found no hazardous substances at the premises.
Perth and Kinross Council said, as part of two days of operational testing, all appliances were switched on and operated as they would be when the kitchen is being used to prepare hot meals.
Testing found no specific cause for the incident of staff taking unwell with a full report on the investigation still to come.
Sheena Devlin, strategic lead for Education and Learning with Perth and Kinross Council, said: “The health and wellbeing of our children and staff is always our priority which is why we took the decision to evacuate Crieff Primary School last week.
“The school was able to re-open on Monday but we kept the kitchen closed while we continued testing kitchen equipment.
“This has shown the kitchen to be in full working order and so it will re-open on Monday.
“Staff from our property services team will remain on site next week to respond if any issues do arise and I would like to thank them – and everyone in the school community – for their support.
“I understand situations like this are concerning for everyone involved and would like to reassure parents, carers, staff and pupils that we will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure the wellbeing of those in our schools.”
