An environmental campaigner has revealed she found 55 disposable vapes littering the streets of Dundee.

Laura Young, from the website lesswastelaura.com, collected the devices during a four-mile walk across the city.

Single-use vapes should be taken to recycling centres as they contain lithium batteries and copper, and are made largely from plastic.

Using the hashtag #bandisposablevapes, Ms Young wrote on Twitter: “People kept asking how many I find. Now I have a more concrete answer. It’s about one per minute walking.

“Many were wet and damaged from being outside littered.

“Just a few thoughts; these were from residential and city centre spots, university students are still home for Christmas break.

“I didn’t go through bushes or littered piles, and only stuck to one side of the road.”

An investigation by STV News last year revealed that the number of people vaping at Scotland’s high schools had increased substantially.

Even though the law restricts sales to over 18s, research revealed that Fife schools confiscated 121 vapes in 2021/22.

The Scottish Government is considering new rules to limit the way vape products can be advertised and promoted.
