The parents of a three-year-old boy who was struck and killed by an elderly driver with dementia say unless the law is changed, a similar tragedy will happen again to another family.
A fatal accident inquiry found “significant defects” in the current system meant Xander Irvine’s death could have been avoided – and the driver should not have been allowed behind the wheel.
Speaking about their grief publicly for the first time, Xander’s parents Paul and Victoria are urging the driving licence authority, the DVLA, and UK Government to follow the Sheriff’s recommendations and implement cognitive tests for drivers over 80.
