Austria have been dealt a blow with news that playmaker Marcel Sabitzer will not be fit to face Scotland on Tuesday.
The Bayern Munich player has missed his national team’s 2-0 win against Moldova and 5-2 loss to Israel but had hopes of being fit for the Group F clash in Vienna.
However, Sabitzer’s club have now said that he will remain in Germany to continue his recovery.
A Bayern statement read: “Marcel Sabitzer won’t rejoin the Austrian national team during the current international window following his adductor injury.
“The FC Bayern medical department decided this after consultations with Austria coach Franco Foda as well as the OFB (Austrian Football Association) doctors. The German record champions’ new signing has only been able to complete one recuperative running session since his arrival at FC Bayern.”
Sabitzer made his name at RB Leipzig and on loan Red Bull Salzburg before making the switch to German giants Bayern this summer.
Scotland are hoping for a win in Austria to boost their World Cup hopes after defeat to Denmark and a 1-0 win over Moldova in the international break so far.
