Champions League heartbreak for Celtic as Lazio net late winner

Lazio scored six minutes into injury time to inflict a 2-1 defeat on Celtic in their Champions League clash.

Celtic were ahead after an early Kyogo Furuhashi goal but the Serie A side equalised through Mateus Vecino.

Luis Palma had a late goal chopped off for offside and Pedro then scored with almost the last touch of the ball to subject the hosts to a cruel defeat.

Celtic took the lead after just 12 minutes with an incisive attack.

A 17-pass move culminated in Daizen Maeda cutting in from the right and picking out Matt O’Riley, whose first-time pass into the box was perfectly weighted for Kyogo to rifle the ball beneath Ivan Provedel and into the net.

The lead had Celtic Park rocking but Lazio weren’t rattled and the Italians pulled level after half an hour.

A corner wasn’t properly cleared and Vecino knocked in the second ball despite Joe Hart doing his best to claw it out as it crossed the line.

Ten minutes from time, Celtic thought they had the winner when substitute Luis Palma squeezed a shot in at the near post after collecting an Alistair Johnston cross but a touch off Maeda meant the winger was offside.

The final minutes passes with a flurry of fouls as both sides looked to grab three points and deep in injury time Lazio struck.

Cameron Carter-Vickers lost the ball outside the box and Matteo Guendouzi found space to put in a cross that Pedrop headed back across goal and into the net to seal a win.
