A Clackmannanshire carer has been struck off after embezzling more than £3,000 from a vulnerable patient in their care.
Kelly McMillan was convicted at Alloa Sherrif Court in July 2024 of using the patient’s debit card and PIN number for unauthorised transactions.
McMillan stole £3,080 between April and June 2020, using the card at multiple locations, including a Co-Op store in Dollar.
The patient, who is now deceased, was receiving home care from McMillan.
A Scottish Social Services Council report found McMillan’s actions were “inherently dishonest and represent conduct which is fundamentally incompatible with professional registration”.
In coming to their decision, they added that she had shown no “remediation” or “insight” and thus had no assurances the behaviour would not be repeated.
The council concluded a removal order would be the most suitable sanction, finding it “necessary to protect the public” and “uphold the standards” expected of care workers.
The removal order came into effect on December 4, 2024.
