An investigation has been launched to identify human remains found on a beach in Orkney and how they came to be there.
Officers were called to the Dingieshowe area at around 1.30pm on Monday.
The beach has been cordoned off as police, supported by the coastguard, continue to work at the scene.
A post-mortem will take place in due course.
Chief inspector Matthew Webb said: “We are working to identify human remains found around 1.30pm on Monday, December 14, on the beach at Dingieshowe, Orkney.
“Officers, supported by the coastguard, are at the scene today which has been cordoned off.
“A full investigation is under way to establish the person’s identity and the circumstances surrounding how they came to be there, as well as what may have happened.”
